Robert Gamble was born about 1755 Ulster, Northern Ireland. He is believed to have left Ireland in 1764 for America. He served in the Revolutionary War between 1775 and 1783. By 1820 he and his family were all living in Shelby Co., Alabama where he owned considerable property. By 1830 his wife Margaret had died and in April 1832 Robert died. Robert and Margaret had nine children. Two of their children, Jane and Aaron, married a son and daughter of James Walker. Some of these families moved to nearby Walker County in between 1840 and 1850. Before and after the Civil War some of Robert and Margaret's children began the western migration. Many descendants of Robert Gamble and James Walker can be traced to Arkansas, Texas, Arizona, California and other western states.
