2008 Walker Family Reunion

The A.J. Walker, Sr., family reunion was held on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the San Saba Senior Center. About 66 family members and friends enjoyed good food, fun, and fellowship. A barbecue dinner, made by Pete and Marsha Hardy, was complemented by wonderful side dishes and desserts brought by everyone else. There was a "birthday" cake brought by Billie Jo and Rick Hammett, stating that this was the 68th Walker reunion (the debate is still on whether that's a real number or a really good guess!).

Following a great lunch, there were several presentations: the "tablecloth art" champions from last year received their trophy, with the stipulation that it has to be returned next year to pass on; the family member that traveled the farthest was Janice Walker from Tucson, AZ (she won a San Saba Armadillo to take home); the youngest member was William Jolley at one-year-old; and the "farthest from the youngest" award went to Earlene Belote. There were three items raffled off this year - a queen-size quilt, a portable DVD player with travel case, and a wall clock. We also had a silent auction and a rowdy, live auction. In addition, many door prizes were won.
