Albuquerque - Tuesday July 7, 2009 - I received the third Looking Back story by Sarah Janice and I have put it on line in the Biography section for Ruth Walker Family. It is unedited but Janice indicated she would like to see it published before the Reunion which is Saturday! We are leaving Albuquerque tomorrow morning and will spend a week in San Saba and Menard so will see you on Saturday. Janice will not be at the 2009 Family Reunion. She has gone to California to be with Shelby when he is released from the hospital this week.
Albuquerque - Wednesday June 22 2009 - Janice called and said she sent the third installment to her Pecan Grove stories and as soon as that arrives we will post it to the Ruth Walker Biographies and Stories section. You can read her two previous stories in that section now.
Albuquerque - Wednesday June 17 2009 - Called Ola Mae as she had sent some photographs from Pearle's collection. One was of the Gin that AJ Walker had a part interest in that was located south of the Court House. I need some help identifying the seven other men who seem to be in charge and there are 12 other men up higher sitting on cotton bales. Ola Mae also sent a photograph of AJ Walker with 14 others that included two adults and the rest are children. I have not seen this photo before and don't recognize any of them. I'm hoping Deonna or Nell or someone else can help me identify those on the two photos which are now posted in Photo Gallery section.
Albuquerque - June 15 2009 - I spoke to Janice about Shelby and she said the news from Shelby is not encouraging. She said that he was out of the ICU and was stable but was not showing much improvement.
Albuquerque - June 13 2009 - Received a note from Tracie Ham today saying she was sorry she will not be at the reunion as she is with the Navy in Kenya, Africa on some sort of Civil Affairs Mission. Tracie is Opal's granddaughter and descends from the Billy and Pearl side of the AJ Walker family. Check your Walker Mail List if you would like to send Tracie a message. Her e-mail address is still the same. -- Eldon
Albuquerque - June 11 2009 - Okay folks, check your calendar and you will find that the San Saba Walker Reunion is exactly one month away. So it's time to make your plans and get together with others in your family. From what I hear this year should be well attended.
Here are some of the people I have heard are making plans. John Walker had open heart surgery in late March and I hear that he and Jo Ann are planning to be there. He has made a remarkable recovery from the surgery. There are the usual ones that we have come to expect to be there. I believe all three of Melba Lou's children, Jackie, Bonnie and Marvin are making plans to attend. Marvin and his family are taking some time away from the Phillipines and visiting Texas. Janice told me that Sammie Ruth and some her family are making some plans to head for San Saba this year.
I spoke to Ola Mae and she has hopes that she and some of her family can make it this year and hopefully there will be others from Billy and Pearle's family.
For the first time all three of my children (Mike, Elizabeth, and Steven) and their spouses will all be at the Estelle Walker table at the same time. And my granddaughter Grace will be there too. Roxie and Curt have missed the last few years but they are making plans to be there this year.
Of course we can count on the regulars. Most of George and Nell's families. And so far as I know Dorothy and Reba and many of their families will be there. So it is shaping up pretty good. Let me know eldon@ajwalker.org if you are making plans to attend. Eldon Pierce.....Albuquerque.
Albuquerque - June 9, 2009 - Shelby Walker, 13th grandchild of A.J. Walker, was admitted to the Bakersfield, California hospital two weeks ago suffering from the effects of a blood system infection. There is an interesting story connected with his family being notified. A neighbor across the street checked in on him and found him unconscious and of course called for medical assistance. But not having an address for any of his family at hand she looked around and found an opened letter regarding the Walker Family Reunion. She called the first name she saw on the mailing list and that happened to be Ola Mae Walker in Carrizo Springs, Texas. And of course Ola Mae notifed the rest of his immediate family. As of today Shelby is still in ICU. We will keep you posted and we wish him a speedy recovery. Shelby is one of the ten surviving grandchildren of A. J. Walker.
